On this post, I'll be telling you how I achieve the results above on my kinky textured natural hair. If you're reading and you don't have naturally curly hair, then I'll break it down for you! A wash and go is wearing your curls in their natural state; after you've washed your hair. I've always struggled to create the 'wash and go' style, because my hair is very thick and coily. But as it has gotten longer, I find it easier to maintain in the wash and go style. I've gotten my hair wash routinedownto very simple steps & cut down on time by doing a wash and go. So lets get started!
Ok! First, I section my hair in 4 sections (2 in the front, 2 in the back), then I get in the shower, and wash each section. I find it much quicker in the shower instead of hovering over a sink. I've been using the Bamboo Essential moisturizing shampoo by R3FINE. It's an organically made shampoo that gently cleanses and supplies ample moisture to your hair, making it healthy and glossy. I prefer to start every style out on freshly cleansed hair. (FYI: I cleanse my hair with warm water)
After I shampoo, I apply conditioner to each section & use my WetBrush. The WetBrush has soft bristles that gently glides through tangles instead of ripping them out. I picked up this Purifying Conditioner by HASK at my local Walgreens. Its BOMB!!!!!! And very affordable. It has charcoal derived from coconut shells& citrus oils that lock in moisture while helping to absorb impurities. It left my curls/coils/kinks very shiny- and minimal frizz. I leave the conditioner on while I finish the rest of my shower. Before I exit, I rinse my hair with COOL water! I shampooed with warm water, which opens up my hair cuticles to allow moisture in. So, I rinse with cool water to seal the hair cuticle closed to lock in all the moisture from this lovely conditioner.
After my hair is cleansed and conditioned, I begin styling. Keep in mind that my hair is still in four sections. I start in the back section and split one of the seconds into thirds. For my styler, I'm using Shea Moisture's Yucca and Plantain Anti-Breaking Strengthening Styling Milk--the BEST for my wash and go's. And for my gel, I'm using a little of the WetLine Xtreme gel- protein free unlike eco styler gel. I apply a nickel sized amount of the styling milk to one of small sections of hair. I then use my WetBrush again to further detangle my hair (hair should be wet when styling). I then apply the gel and smooth over the section until my curls are defined. I do this throughout all the sections. This takes me about 45 minutes, only because I do often & work fast. But if you are still trying to master the wash and go, then it may take some time! Just remember to style on wet hair because your curls will be more defined. I've also tried using the Shea Moisture Sacha Inchi Curl Defining smoothie. Works just as well!!
